Fighter: Way of the Samurai [V2.0] [Set 2]

Stage of testing: Ready for play-testing [V2.0]




Currently I am in the process of designing my own world setting for the next game that I run. A major part of the setting are the Elven peoples, who are the largest empire, imperialistic and traditional. Their influence has come heavily from Japanese history. To add depth to this I wanted the chance to offer my players unique archetypes if they decide on an Elven origin. This of course, lead to the Samurai being created. In this I tried to capture the slightly romanticised version of Samurai from books and movies; The horse riding, Duel/Challenging great martial warrior. I feel this has been captured very well in this archetype. They gain a loyal steed that they gain bonuses to akin to a beast master hunter, they gain an extra attack when shooting from horse back, they can lay down challenges, gaining bonuses when they do and they can inspire allies with their list of deeds. I have tried to write this in a way that it can easily be used for a more western themed Knight, bandit lords ect. I am happy with the balance at the moment, and the abilities feel on point. I am looking forward to play testing this one myself!

Changes

V 1.1

Challenge: It’s front end damage was reduced as it was too much, but it instead gained the option to select a style of fighting for the dual, giving various bonuses.
Sashimono: Changed to give advantage for one round instead of +Cha to attacks and damage
Honourable Stand: Removed, updated with Ways of Bushido, which adds more flavour and carries on the theme better.
Recall Deeds: Changed to add flavour by including the Sashimono in it’s description. No mechanical changes.
Last Stand: Changed to To the Death. This is mechanically easier and fits the theme nicely.

V 1.2

Ways of Bushido: Added additional flavour for horse archery, allowing a bonus action attack for half dmage
To the Death: Slightly altered it, making it so you get immunity against the attack that would kill you

V 1.3

To the Death: Toned it down, removed advantage and reverted back to 1hp instead of immune to the attacks damage,
